For the Love of Fruit
Each year as the New Year comes around we make resolutions and promises to eat better and exercise more. About now those resolutions have lost their New Years glimmer and we are losing faith that we can actually achieve what we set out to do. Today is a new day- Go ahead and finish off your box of Valentines Day candy and then return to that reasonable plan to improve your health.
You can start by consuming fresh Washington apples and pears from Chelan Fresh. Both arehigh in fiber and nutrients, but low in calories. And they are readily available in your local grocery store or club warehouse. Apples and pears are filling too, so they help curb those mid-morning and late afternoon hanger pangs associated with reduced calorie diets.
It is never too late to do the right thing, so stop beating yourself up, get back in the saddle and continue your plan to eat healthier and get out and exercise more. After all it is the month of love, start by loving yourself.
Meet the Grower
Chelan Fresh is proud to represent the growers of Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties in Washington State. In the coming months we will introduce them to you in our new “Meet theGrower” series. Check in regularly with our blog – To The Core to hear about what’s happening out in the orchards that produce some of Washington’s Finest Mountain Grown Fruit.
For the second installment of our “Meet the Grower” series we sat down with 4th-generation grower John Freese to talk about family, the challenges of growing organic, the threat of labor shortages and the joys of raising kids on a farm

Chelan Fresh category support goes well beyond supplying and shipping product to our customers. Our Category Management team keeps their finger on the pulse of how US consumers are buying fresh apples, pears and cherries.

Favorite Apple: Honeycrisp – I love the crispness of this apple. The flavor is sweet, but not too sweet like a Fuji. The apple tends to be juicy and the skin is generally light, unlike a Red Delicious. I do also love a Granny Smith! The tartness is refreshing on a hot summer day!
Favorite Cherry: Lapin – This cherry tends to be firm, sweet and juicy.
Favorite part of working at Chelan Fresh: I really enjoy being around my co-workers every day. I love a teamwork atmosphere and the group of people I work with all have that attitude. It’s almost as if we are family. I really love interacting with our customers too. I’ve built some great relationships that have extended outside of work. Being around and being involved with honest, caring, positive and fun people is key for my mental health as well as my personal productivity. I want to work hard while having fun doing it!
Favorite thing to do outside of work: I love being outdoors, so anything I can do outdoors is my favorite way to spend my time out of work. I love hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, riding quads and even yard work!
